Just to show how influential Davao is to the capital. When the Bankerohan Bridge collapsed, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan himself went to look at the damage. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo instructed him to expedite the repair of the bridge, which is now a cause of major traffic and stress on the populace with its one lane being impassable.
Secretary Bonoan said:
We will go for modern method of construction and adopt specific scheme that will be more expeditious in its implementation with the highest quality standards designed to safeguard the motorists and the public in general.
Currently there are 3 bridges granting access to the city from the south. Diversion road bridge, bridge at Ma-a and the one in Ecoland. The criticality of the Gov. Generoso bridge however is proven by the fact that most of the traffic passes through that bridge as it is strategically situated in the heart of the city.
