In order to allow for a longer vacation break for the general populace, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared June 11 a non working holiday in lieu of June 12, which is the Nation’s Independence Day. Issued under Proclamation No. 1211, which also states that April 7 and Nov 2 will be declared as non-working Holidays.
The objective of shifting these National Holidays is so as to give longer weekends where Filipino Families can spend more time with one another as well as to help boost the local tourism industries. This practice of shifting Holiday Vacations closer to the weekend has been dubbed as “Holiday Economics”.
