Davao City could be on its way to being noticed for its pristine golf courses with a tournament that will bring together Golfers from Davao and Hong Kong. The Senior Golf Match will be held at Palos Verde Golf Club starting September 25 in Davao City. The event is being organized by the Philippine Golf Foundation and was born out of some talks and discussions between fellow players in Hong Kong.
The Golf Tournament will have about 20 players from both Cities playing in Davao for two days. The Hong Kong based teams consists of owners of companies, Company Presidents and CEO’s. Entrance to the tournament won’t require the purchase of golf tickets.
The Golf Tournament will play two-men teams with five players each team and then the make up of the team will be re-shuffled come the following day. Each team will have two 70 years old player who are all amateur players.
Hong Kong Team Captain, Joseph Pethes, said that they majorly consist of senior players and that they are playing to build partners with the local folks, network, and to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie with both teams.
He added, “This is our chance of knowing our counterparts and the Senior Team is growing all over the world,”
Event director Andy Dumlao III also said that this will be just one of the first tournaments in Davao to connect the locals with foreign counterparts as they will soon organize other Golf Tournaments to get folks from Malaysia and Indonesia to come over.
Department of Tourism regional director, Sonia Garcia, also added to Mr. Dumlao’s statements by saying that the Department of Tourism in Davao is busy creating packages which use golf as the vehicle to attract visitors and to promote Davao as a Golfing Destination. An example of which are with the golf packages being devised for fellow BIMP-EAGA members that will foster golf ties with Davao-Manado and Davao-Kota Kinabalu.
