Somebody once told me that in life you will need a good engineer, a good accountant and a good lawyer. Having lived life already I can say there is more to life than just those three. So from my own logic I can say that you will need a Good Lawyer, an Honest Doctor and an Honest Mechanic. An Honest Doctor because you always want him to be truthful in his billings and in his diagnosis of you. A Good Lawyer because in the justice system’s ruling the world an honest lawyer isn’t enough to cut it. Then comes the last piece of advice.
An Honest Mechanic to fix and diagnose your car problems. Having almost gone through a dozen mechanics I can safely say that an Honest Mechanic is the difference between saving a lot and giving up on personal transportation altogether.
A Good Mechanic will be able to solve your problems. However an honest mechanic will be honest enough to tell you when he’s not capable of fixing your car, but he knows somebody who is. He will be honest enough to tell you that he doesn’t know about fuel injection parts, nor how the car alarm works as well as how to install those latest car active suspensions with air compressors. He’s not the type to install car mods, NOS systems, wicked car sub woofers, stylish car kits nor the latest ground effects.
So what is he there for? He’s just there to fix your car and make sure that its running. An honest mechanic will tell you where you can buy parts cheaply and which shops offers real and not knock-off parts. He’ll tell you when you really need to replace that car battery of yours or whether it just needed some tightening.
They’ll also tell you where the great spots for surplus parts are as well as the going price for that second hand starter or alternator. An honest mechanic will tell you whether the car you are planning to buy is a good deal or one that is going to cost more in repairs. And to a dishonest mechanic, a car needing repairs is the path to riches.
So how do you get a good mechanic? Usually through friends. My mechanic got handed down to me like an inheritance by my uncle. His friendship with his mechanic was passed down to me. So in turn he is now my friend. I treat him differently than other people. When he tells me that his kid graduated from college, I add a little extra on his service fee and honor him by taking a swig off the gin he offered me.
My friend, the mechanic, is worth more than his weight in gold with the savings I was able to accrue because of him. There were times when I was about to give up on my car already because of some car parts not being available anymore for my current ride, a battered and beat up 90’s Toyota Corolla. For that age, Toyota Corolla Parts are hard to come by. But he was able to show to me where the best surplus stores were found. How to talk to the sellers so that I won’t be charged high. But mostly its because those sellers know my mechanic and are just passing the discount along to me.
So in parting, don’t ever under estimate the value of an Honest mechanic because of the valuable service and friendship that he offers.
