Davao City Seeks to Attract Foreign Retirees

Davao City Council last June 3 passed a proposal to initiate a comprehensive retirement program which will attract foreign nationals to retire in the city. The retirement program will be done by the City Planning and Development Office (CDO) and will focus on putting the infrastructure in place to setup retirement villages

A retirement village is a specially built community with health and insurance facilities in place along with 24 hour security. It also has recreational, cultural and educational facilities, and transport services for the retiree clients.

According to Councillor Pilar Braga: “If we put our acts together, we can compete with Thailand and Malaysia - two of the main destinations of retirees.”

Compared to western cities, Davao has year long Sunny or Rainy weather only. And it is geographically blessed to be always out of the path of typhoons. Since it is in the southern most part of the Philippines, the cost of living is comparebly lower than that of Manila. Expect that you will get more out of your retirement benefits with the cheap cost of living.
