Davao City Councilor, Leo Avila, told reporters that the City consumes about 9000 sacks of rice a day. This came as he announced preparations for a “riceless day” with other non government organizations, in order to send the message across to rice traders of the exorbitant price of rice.
Considering that the last census by the government pegs Davao City to have a population of over 2M. For a 50 kg/bag of rice that will the city consuming about 450,000kg of rice a day or about .225kg rice/person.
