Provincial Administrator Rufo Peligro of Davao Del Norte Province announced that the provincial capitol is implementing a 30 percent reduction in their fuel expenses.
This came after gasoline stations announced that they are no longer accepting Purchase Orders from the government when tanking up on gas. This time they want cash payment upfront. The era of cheap gas prices are over with fuel prices over $100/barrel in the world market.
The Legislative branch of the provincial government was also encouraged to conducted their own fuel saving measures in order to survive the unnatural high price of oil.
They are also looking at getting rid of old and run down government vehicles which consume too much fuel.
Provincial Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario also signed a memo that requires offices to turn off lights during their lunch breaks and to make sure that air conditioning units are used only between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. He also asked them to help conserve other utilities such as water and to check if their buildings plumbing facilities are in good condition.
