SM City Davao plays host to a seminar on Autism which will benefit the public in knowing and understanding Autism. Autism is a psychological disorder and there are ways to dealing with autism.
The seminar is free and is titled: “Triumph Over Austism”. It will be held at Cinema 2 on September 27, 2008 from 8am to 12 noon.
International lecturer and author, Annabel Stehli, and her daughter, Georgiana Thomas, will share their experience in dealing with autism. Her daughter has been diagnosed with autism at the age of three.
Annabel Stehli is the Director of the Georgiana Institute in Roxbury, CT, a non-profit organization founded in 1991 and dedicated to providing information on Auditory Integration Training (AIT).
Stehli authored the book Sound of Miracle, a Child’s Triumph Over Autism. She is also the editor of Dancing in the Rain, Stories of Exceptional Progress by Parents of Children with Special Needs and Sound of Falling Snow, Stories of Recovery from Autism and Related Conditions.
Together, she and her daughter have defied the odds and limitations imposed on autistic children. Her daughter went from special education to straight A’s in a mainstream school after receiving AIT.
Georgina is fluent in six languages, including Arabic, spoken and written. Her story is detailed in her self-published autobiography, Overcoming Autism. Georgiana attributes her recovery to diving intervention, AIT, and parents who finally paid attention when they were led in the right direction.
The Davao seminar on Autism is organized by Beacon Learning Center in cooperation with SM Supermalls Committee on Disability Affairs and Sound Therapy Learning Center.
