House Speaker Prospero Nograles announced an additional P16 million pesos in his scholarship program for college students in the first district of Davao City. The program gives free schooling by means of free tuition and payment of school fees to qualified students.
His Chief-of-Staff and son, Atty. Karlo Nograles, also said that the additional funds were part of the Speaker’s Oplan Kaalam CHED Scholarship Program. The scholarship program would pay for tuition fees of the scholar as long as the student maintains an average of at least 2.5, and does not fail or drop any subject or get an incomplete grade.
The scholarship program has about 2,000 beneficiaries scattered in private colleges and universities. Majority of those who have availed of the free tuition are studying in the University of Mindanao, Holy Cross of Davao College and the University of the Immaculate Conception.
Besides the scholars of Oplan Kaalam, House Speaker Nograles has a separate program that supports some 4,000 scholars enrolled in the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) and 200 students at the University of the Philippines – Mindanao.
Together with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Speaker Nograles Scholarship program gives financial assistance for tuition and school fees to qualified students enrolled in any privately owned college or university in Davao City.
In part with this, Atty Karlo Nograles and the speakers staff are conducting Campus Tours in Colleges and Universities as an information campaign to spread the news about the available scholarships for students.
