BPO’s can benefit from Fall out of US Financial Crisis

BPO firms are looking at the opportunities generated by the US Financial Crisis instead of the downside of stagnant credit and the difficulty of refinancing loans.

This down turn could mean increased clients for outbound and inbound contact centers, Marienita del Monte, chief of Cybercity Services in Davao said at the Club 888 Forum of the Marco Polo Davao. In their case they have already received new clients who are looking for more cost effective ways of running their business.

Davao Job Fair and Business Seminars on Oct 23 - 25, 2008

October 12th, 2008 --

A job fair will be held at the Davao Convention Center in time with the Davao Trade Expo of 2008 from October 23 to 25, 2008.

This is made possible by the cooperation of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII), the Department of Labor and Employment and the tv station, ABS-CBN who will disseminate the information.

Davao’s Untapped Landscaping Industry

Evelyn Laviña, wife of City Councilor Peter Laviña, said that there is a huge potential for the landscapers in Davao but noted the lack of organization of the landscaping industry which could have helped aide its upliftment.

She also noted the disparity of pricing between Davao and Manila as normal charges would just be P500 / sq. m vs P150,000 in Manila.

Melamine Milk Scare makes goats milk popular

According to Cesar Ledesma, president of Cash Action for Sustainable and Healthy (CASH) Lifestyle Network, the recent melamine laced milk scandal from China has actually increased the demand for melamine free goats milk in a Davao goat farm.

The Lao Farm in Davao del Sur produces 8 to 10 gallons of milk per day, but now cannot meet the increased demand. He said that this is an indicator that more people would rather go for locally produced products this time. It also heightened their awareness of the importance of healthy living which is usually done by eating healthy foods and organic foods.

The sad reality however is that Davao City has only 20 producers of organic products.

He also said that despite the higher price in organic and healthy food products, their members are not deterred in following this healthy lifestyle.

Davao Light implements electric bill subsidy

Davao implemented the P500 subsidy for subscribers whose electric consumption is below 100 kw-hours/month for the month of October.

This was part of the government subsidy titled “Pantawid Kuryente: Katas ng VAT” whose goal was to help marginal consumers of electricity in this time of high fuel and commodities brought about by the high price of oil in the world market.
