Smart Broadband Inc filed for more frequency bandwidth from the NTC because they are planning to offer Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) with their current services. With IPTV, SmartBro will be able to offer digital television shows to their customer base.
SmartBro already filed their application in March for the use of two 48-megahertz frequency bandwidth in the 700 MHz spectrum.
In current practice, IPTV is usually provided along with traditional Voice over IP (VoIP) phone service. IPTV usually comes in the form of Video in Demand. With this current development, it further dulls the lines between traditional telecommunications company and cable companies as the latter has already started providing internet services along with its traditional Cable TV programs.

The Davao City Department of Trade and Industry is requiring all new business name applicants to subject themselves to a 3 hour seminar before their business name certificates will be issued.
The 3 hour seminar will basically be about Philippine Fair Trade Laws and will be conducted every Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the Davao DTI office in Monteverde-Sales St. Over 319 registrants have already participated in the 30 seminars conducted by the DTI.
The purpose of the seminar is to increase compliance to Fair Trade Laws and other related trade and industry laws among business establishments in the province. It aims to increase awareness about consumer rights and consumer protection found in the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394)

Only 3 of the 70 examinees that took the April 6 Philippine National IT Standards (PhilNITS) Certification Exam for Fundamental Engineers (FE) in Davao City were able to pass. Adding that to the total number of passers results in a lowly 6.
Those who passed were instructors in the IT Departments of UP Mindanao and STI College. They are: Antonio Tantoy Trasporto, Jr. (STI College of Davao), Vanessa Castillo Ramoran (UP-Min) and Jan Vincent Quindoy Miro (UP-Min).

Tax Attorney Marcelinda Omila-Yap, who heads the Regional BIR in Davao, said that all agent banks will still accept payments for the Tax Amnesty program til May 5, 2008. Tax Lawyers and Tax Accountants can now sigh a collective relief because of the extension.
In order to avail of the Tax Amnesty program, one has but to see the Revenue District Officers(RDO) at the Bureau of Internal Revenue. The RDO will guide the taxpayers on how to file for tax amnesty. They are however, prevented from verifying or inspecting the forms or payments made.

Two practising lawyers have been elevated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Judgeship in order to fill the void in the Davao Regional Trial Court. This was on recommendation by the Philippine Judicial & Bar Council last January 31, 2008.
Attorney. Ridgway Tanjili was chosen as the new judge of Branch 15 after the retirement of Judge Jesus Quitain. Judge Quitain had retired last year leaving the seat vacant for a year. Atty Tanjili was previously director of the Public Attorney’s Office in Region XI before assuming the vacant post at Branch 15. He had been with the PAO for 16 years rising to the level of Director.
Judge Tanjili acquired his law degree from the Ateneo de Davao University Law School, one of the most prestigious and famous law schools in the Philippines.
